Grounded while not grounded.

Apologies for the lack of blog posts this past 1.5 weeks. I’m in the midst of a long block of commentating and traveling for Speed Week (If you want to follow along and watch live you can here. ). I will do a long post about the experience of commentating pro cycling, during this week, in a later post. This post is about how I stay grounded in training, friendships, health, wellness during my travels.

Here are several tips that have really helped me stay (TBH it hasn’t been perfect but it’s better than not!) We travel a good bit and commentate a lot.

Here’s some travel tips for training/training like a pro on the road.

  1. Take a candle, bluetooth speaker and some home items. I travel with a candle my bluetooth speaker. It keeps me centered and balanced. Tethered to home. The speaker is used to play MY music. The candle is Lavender . Small little household items from home really do help with mood. Traveling is really hard on the mind and body. The more things that keep you grounded to home, the more success you will have staying on top of your health and wellness!

  2. Exercise. I brought both of my bikes and my yoga mat. How many yoga classes did I do? 3. THREE TOTAL! However, how many would I have done if I didn’t take my Mat? Zero. I haven’t touched my road bike. I had intentions to ride it during the two weeks. But, things happened. However, it did point me to my mountain bike. I have ridden it about 60% of the days. I’ve it to greenways. Single-track. Explored. Rode it to Yoga. Grocery store. It made the idea of not being at home, more like home. Don’t deviate from your normal life on the road as much as you possibly can. What I do miss is the daily walks and runs. Strength training is at about 50% of normal. :)

  3. Nutrition. This one is hard. Much harder. Traveling is a nightmare to good, healthy nutrition. But, there are ways to overcome it. Pack a good cooler with Kombucha, club soda, almonds, string cheese and any other tummy friendly foods. These happen to be my favorites. The cooler can act as a fridge wherever you are. Airbnb or hotel.

  4. Get an airbnb instead of hotel. There’s something about being in a home, that you can turn into your home. All the above can be a part of your travel experience. Pots, pans, microwave, grills and stove can drastically increase your positive vibes! Plus, a kitchen will encourage healthier eating.

  5. Call family and friends frequently to check in. Saying hello can give you a sense of grounding that travel doesn’t offer. Mom, dad and friends can be that nice voice that you will need during hectic life that travel presents.

Hope these small tidbits can help you in your travels!

Chad
