What a great weekend over the Labor day Holiday.....
(Here is a thumbnail view of the weekend pictures if you want!)
Phew....what a crazy weekend!. It started off with a great photoshoot for Road bike action, then the US PRO time trial for Coach Thad, then a ride up Paris mountain, followed by a Sunday am ride up Paris mtn, then the US PRO Road Race, Hincapie party followed that, with short drive to Atlanta to commentate the US 100K!! That was a mouthful.
The weekend started great by meeting with the Silva man, Coach Thad and Coach Boyd. Decked out in our P4T jerseys we set off the show Joe how Paris mtn is for the US Pro. It was to be inside information for a major magazine. Here Coach Boyd discusses where I will be promptly dropped.
The base of Paris moutain: Thanks to Hincapie Sportswear for the GEAR!
JoE then jumped in the back of the P4T/Totalcyclist car and got some awesome shots (With Nicole B from Hincapie driving!)
THis is the steep part but some of us find it easier than others.....
Look for updates on the article very soon!
We then woke up the next morning for preparation in the US PRO TT. It was a very interesting set up to say the least. Around Icar in Greenville. There must have been 20 turns on the course as it was navigated 3 times. Thad had a solid ride, and according to him a average result. Don't know about you, but riding in the team car...he sure seemed fast.
We got a break and headed back up to Paris for a quick ride and then it was dinner and sleep time.
The next day JoE and I strategized on what to do with P4T and Totalcyclist. It appears things are coming fast and furious for the business. Big news coming out soon...I hope!h
The road race left me dazed and confused. I got in The DLP team car hoping to help the team out on Radio. However, I got in the backseat to offer a Sponsor prime viewing of the race. Bad choice. It was rocking and rolling through the circuit and I was about to yak in the backseat. Hot, twisty....ya get the picture. THere was a Totalcyclist athlete in the car with us and she was holding on for dear life. I love the racing action...but that day it got to me.
Thad and Boyd rode Solid with Thad pulling of a finish (something 90 guys didnt do)
It was then on to the Hincpaie party which made for a very long day. I was to MC the fashion show. What a blast!!!!
Here is a quicky shot of the finale with George, Rich and Papa .Cleints Max Robb and Papa Robb with Eric Cimelli front center.
After that was over I boogied on down to the Big Atlanta to commentate the US 100K, the 2nd to the last NRC race of the season. The teams were absolutely jacked up. Everyone was knackered (americans) from the US Pro which makes this race a challenge for 2 reasons:
- All the Americans are throddled from a 100 mile Road Race
- Most everyone else has no idea that a 50mph finish is waiting on them.
It started off with the Women and Coach Robin attacking from the go. It is only a 10K race for the women, but Robin made the first move...and the only one with Lauren Franges. Robin sat up with detonated legs and Lauren somehow fended everyone off for a huge check!!!
The men do 8 laps around the airport then head to the finish. We see them once, and that is at 45-50mph. Plus you throw in 10 thousand runners and inline and it is all sorts of crazy.
Bernard Van Ulden attacked along with Chris Harkey, Tom Soladay and the Baj. I can't believe it but they stayed away until the last 3 meters. However, the 3 of them barely hung on with Van Ulden1st, Baj 2nd and Harkey rounding out the top 3. Good result for local boy Chris Harkey! Weird thought. We were in such a rush that I had to do the awards presentation and introduce Jordin Sparks at the same time!
I can't recall ever having thousands of screaming teenagers going nuts while I was getting them revved up. Surreal.
Here's the recap:
Climb Paris Mtn, for show and fun. TT car support, dinner and drinks, Paris in the am of US PRO, get sick in Team car, MC Hincapie Fashion show, drive to ATL, get 4 hours of sleep, commentate US 100K, introduce Jordin Sparks, drive home.
WTH????
Its off to UNIVEST this weekend during a Hurricane, then SFO and Dallas.
Check back in yall.
