Special Olympian Darius Robinson Wins 3 Silver Medals @ USA Games
New TotalCyclist athlete, Darius Robinson of Concord, NC, competed in the Special Olympics 2014 USA Games currently underway (June 14-21) in New Jersey. He competed in the 5k, 10k, and 15k road races in Skillman Park (Somerset County), and won a silver medal in all 3. Congratulations, Darius!
In 2014, Special Olympics Team North Carolina consists of 45 athletes and 16 coaches competing in aquatics, athletics, basketball, bocce, bowling, cycling, golf, gymnastics, powerlifting, soccer, tennis and triathlon. Special Olympics North Carolina used the advancement criteria set forth by Special Olympics, Inc. to select the athletes who are a part of Team NC. Gold medal winners from all ability level divisions were put into a random drawing in order to be selected for participation in the Games. Darius won several gold medals in cycling events to qualify for the USA Games. When he returns home, he will continue training for the 2014 Special Olympics cycling season, August-November. He has set his sights on more gold!
